Angolans will head to the elections in August, with the ruling MPLA party looking to preserve its status as the indisputable force on the country’s political scene. With long-time leader Dos Santos stepping down after this year’s elections, all eyes will be on his successor, Defense Minister and MPLA vice-president João Manuel Goncalves Lourenço.
