Angolans will take part in the country’s fourth election on 23 August, with 220 seats in the National Assembly being up for grab, while the head of the party with the highest number of deputies will automatically become president of the country. All eyes will be on the ruling MPLA presidential candidate João Lourenço after long-leader, Jose Edourdo Dos Santos, announced his retirement, having ruled the oil-producing southern African nation since 1979.
