Personal Field Security Training & PFST Refresher

Purpose of the training

The Personal Field Security (PFST) has been specifically designed to increase preparedness and awareness of people working in high risk environments and support them in building confidence in managing critical and life-threatening situations. It is commonly referred as HEAT training in the sector. Throughout the training, participants will attend theoretical sessions, practice new skills and experience real-life simulations exercises.

Preparation, planning and reaction are the three pillars of our PFST.

Personal Security and First Aid are a significant part of the duty of care from companies and organizations to their employees. Trainings are vital to assure staff, fjavascript:;amilies and companies that staff will be working in an environment with optimal preparation. At the end of the training, the participants will feel more comfortable to carry out their work in various environment. They will be better equipped to anticipate and react to threat. This training supports the mainstreaming of the security culture across the entire company/organisation.

Duration

The duration of the training starts from 3 days and can be extended up to 5 days.

  • The 3-day version typically includes all the modules, 7 hours of Emergency First Aid (certification) and a final simulation exercise (4 hours).
  • The 5-day extended version typically includes all the modules (extended), 14 hours of Trauma First Aid (TECC – Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, certified), a full day simulation (± 20h) and collective and individual follow-up by an expert psychologist.

However, the training can totally be adapted to suit best the client’s learning needs.

Location

The programme runs regularly in France and Kenya. One shot trainings are and can be conducted globally.

Certification

Successful participants will receive the following certification:

  • OSC-Highfield Training Certificate (www.highfieldabc.ae)
  • Emergency First Responder Certificate. (www.emergencyfirstresponse.com)
  • Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Certificate (c-tecc.org). The TECC is delivered in partnership with SCH Formation, a CTECC accredited organisation (only for the 5-day PFST).

Refresher PFST course

Three years after an initial PFST course, awareness, knowledge and skills need a refresher to remain relevant. Our refresher course ensures that knowledge is updated and participants have the state of the art skills and tools to achieve their goals in their environment.

The refresher PFST is a 2-day course including refresher on basics modules and updated knowledge and capacity building in line with the sector’s latest development.

The TECC is delivered in partnership with SCH Formation, a CTECC accredited organisation.

Sexual Violence Awareness Training

Purpose of the training

According to recent research more than two thirds of female aid workers have experienced sexual aggression, with more than half reporting persistent sexual advances.

The aim of this training is to provide all participants with an understanding of sexual aggression. This includes sexual violence, the selection of targets, prevention methods, risk management skills and contingency plans should the worst happen so that their capacity to avoid incidents and their ability to reduce impact is maximised.

The well-being of all participants is a main priority. A relaxed and comfortable environment will be established. Anyone can leave the room for a period if they so wish.

  • Raise awareness, ensure informed consent.
  • Risk Reduction in specific environment (travel, hotels, guest houses, communities).
  • Post Exposure Preventive (PEP).
  • First Aid and Psychological first aid.
  • Support fellow staff.
  • Break-Away skills can be included in the training.

Anti-Abduction Awareness Training

Purpose of the training

This training is tailored for NGO workers, members of media organisations, private companies or any other non-governmental organisation with staff who work or are looking to work in areas where kidnapping is listed amongst the likely threats.

  • Understand the various elements involved in a kidnapping operation and the motivations behind them.
  • How to avoid being a victim.
  • Mechanisms used to survive a hostage-taking event.
  • How to live and survive in captivity.
  • Hostage release and post-release events.
  • Explain major differences between a kidnapping, an abduction, a hostage and a hostage taking situation.
  • Explain the best risk mitigation strategies in the event that kidnapping is a threat in their zone of operations and the reactive measures if confronted to a hostage taking situation.

Chemical Weapons Awareness Training

The objective of this training is to make sure that participants are prepared to face chemical weapons related threats, in this spirit, our training will familiarize the participants with:

  • Context of chemical weapons (CW) use
  • Types and signs of Chemical Weapons
  • Signs, symptoms and indicators
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • NH15 & EH20 Hoods
  • RSDL (Rapid Skin Decontamination Lotion)
  • Dos and Don’ts if caught out in open

It will also teach how to identify chemical hazards and how to react to this specific threat and danger.

Security Management Training

Purpose of the training

Security management is a vital part of any organisations remit. Our training enables organisations to work to their best ability in difficult environments, safeguarding their staff, whilst operating at the highest level possible.

The aim of the training is to develop the understanding of security management tools to international staff in the field through an on site training, with specific drills and simulations.
The objectives of this training is to ensure that participants will be comfortable with the following situations and competencies:

  • Contextual Analysis: actors, mapping, information collection
  • What makes us vulnerable ?
  • Threshold of acceptable risk and limits. Focus on specific NGO mandate and programme
  • Image and perception: Humanitarian access and the challenges of acceptance

Crisis Management Training

Purpose of the training

Working in the NGO sector involves being able to manage crises when they occur. Allowing programmes to continue where suitable, without comprimising safety of staff.

Our training will prepare you to face any critical crisis situation you might cross in your work, in order to do this we have designed this training around the following key points:

  • Understanding what is covered in a Crisis Management Policy
  • Creation and management of a Crisis Management Team
  • Defining and delegating responsibilities within the Crisis Management Team.
  • Developing a Crisis Management Plan
  • Integrating the plan at all organisational levels
  • Testing and practicing a Crisis Management Plan
  • Identifying tools and procedures required for Crisis Management
  • Understanding the importance of internal and external communications when managing a crisis situation

Kidnapping Initial Responder Training

Purpose of the training

Designed to provide you with the skills to act effectively as a ‘first responder’ if a kidnap or extortion event affects your organisation. It seeks to give you the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to act confidently, objectively and effectively when protecting the physical integrity of your people or security of your assets, if threatened by a kidnap or extortion-related incident.

The training covers:

  • Organisation Response
  • Initial Contacts
  • Dealing with the victim’s family
  • Suspected offender’s intelligence gathering and analysis
  • Threat Assessments
  • Active listening skills
  • Liaison with stakeholders
  • Making use of technical equipment
  • Negotiation with suspected offenders
  • Arranging ransom payment
  • Arranging for a courier
  • Dealing with a released hostage
  • Post-incident policies and procedures.

Emergency First Responder

  • Primary Care (CPR) – This course teaches you the steps and techniques for handling life-threatening emergencies. You’ll practice eight skills for aiding patients who aren’t breathing, have no heartbeat, may have a spinal injury, may be in shock or who may have serious bleeding. You’ll learn to how to perform CPR and continue to monitor the patient, so that you provide every possible chance of survival while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.
  • Secondary Care (First Aid) – Because many medical conditions are not life-threatening and emergency medical services are sometimes delayed or unavailable, this course teaches you how to provide first aid that eases pain and reduces the risk of further harm. You’ll learn to assess a variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and splinting.
  • Care for Children – This course allows participants to learn, practice and apply emergency care skills specific to helping infants and children with medical emergencies. It’s designed for those who work with children or are likely to have to respond to emergencies involving youngsters. This course is often integrated with Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses.
  • CPR & AED – This course focuses on CPR training and teaching participants how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator). When workplace or governmental requirements specify this training, the CPR & AED course meets the need. This course is often integrated into First Aid at Work programs.

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care

OTHER SOLUTIONS is an accredited educative partner of the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (C-TECC) (http://c-tecc.org/).

The TECC program is based on the guidelines from the Committee on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (Co-TECC). TECC uses lessons learned from the military and applies them to the civilian world of tactical medicine.

Topics include:

  • Haemorrhage control

  • Surgical airway control

  • Needle decompression

  • Strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments

  • Caring for patients
  • Techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safety.

At the core of the TECC program are three distinct phases that have been well-proven by TCCC-trained personnel:

  • Direct Threat Care: Care that is rendered while under attack or in adverse conditions.

  • Indirect Threat Care: Care that is rendered while the threat has been suppressed, but may resurface at any point.

  • Evacuation

Care that is rendered while the casualty is being evacuated from the incident site.

Purpose of the training

The objective of this training is to provide organisations with a high-quality participative defensive driving training for staff and drivers. This aims at increasing the confidence of staff in order to ensure better preparedness, and decrease the likelihood of incidents, while teaching the correct controlled reactions in case of incident.
